Man life is crazy sometimes - My last post, i asked you to share my newsletter so you can help me grow it

3 people unsubscribed…. that hurt haha

But anyway πŸ˜„ Happy New Year my beautiful people, hope everyone had a fanatastic festive period and an awesome new year

Personally, i made dinner with my girlfriend, popped a bottle (only had one glass of champagne each) and then we went to a bar for the New Year fireworks - i have no good photos and cant upload a video i recorded, but it was nice - nothing over the top πŸ™‚

I spent my New Years Eve in freezing cold London, was literally 0 degrees outside, and every day has been -4 to 2 degrees ever since

So yeah, im freezing my tits off here - can’t wait for spring haha

Today, I wanna chat the state of the job market, where we can look to see som

JOBS

Ok Im going to mention a competitor

Most of you probably know about OfferZen - technically not a competitor cause they hire for SA companies, not international ones, but they will do more international companies eventually

But yeah, create yourself an account there, and look at all the job postings, thats a great opportunity to find local companies, currently hiring

Here’s an example of a job they’re currently hiring for

INTERVIEWS

Stop Making Excuses

I’ve just gotten a new role to hire for - but its marketing, so isn’t relavent for you guys

Still, if you know any Paid Media Strategist that want to go into Account Management, I am hiring and have good budget :))

Anyway one of the candidates rescheduled with me - btw, they’ve been looking for work for 3 months already

Want to know why they are rescheduling?

Internet - their fibre is down

That is such a pathetic excuse, i cannot even comprehend it - but the client wants to interview a few people, otherwise, this would have already discouraged me

Literally, put 1gb of data on your phone, and use your hotspot… instead, you reschedule a meeting with a CEO… just thinking about this pisses me off lol

I recently wrote that speed kills and you gotta Strike While The Iron Is Hot

This person is literally quenching the iron…

For your interviews

  • Camera is on and clear (buy an external 4k or HD camera if you dont have a good one)

  • Internet is stable, if you’re on Rain, get off that, or have back up, like your phone

  • Laptop and Cellphone batteries are juiced to 100%

  • Look clean, calm and collected - I once had someone that literally looked like she was busy cleaning the house just before getting on the call with me to interview for a Business Analyst role…

The job market is difficult, don’t make it more difficult on yourself

Curious, what’s the worst interview you’ve ever done?

I had a recorded interview, basically chatting to a bot, video recorded, and half way through the interview, I had a panic attack lol - first and last time it happened, but it was crazy, i could barely breathe…

CAREER

I think we should see better times in 2026

Have been so busy in November and December, and now, even starting January, we have a new opportunity, so the market is picking up

What does this mean for you?

If you’re happy with your current job, I guess, not too much, maybe promotions, more money and learning opportunities are coming your way

But if you’re not happy?

You have to have AI - i’d build an app, publish it on Github, and use mostly AI to build it

AI for deployment, for development, for testing, for monitoring

You have to understand what AI tools are out there, how to best use them, and what benefits they will have for your future employers - don’t think you can get the job just because you match the requirements perfectly

Companies will hire someone that not only can meet their requirements, but can also provide some value add on the tech stack side, from an AI point of view

Imagine your company hired someone onto your team, and they brought a wealth of AI knowledge and experience you could all benefit from? Wouldnt that make you more excited than just someone that comes in and can do the work?

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Tool of the week

Before we jump in! If you’re not using AI at work - ask your company to hook you up with Cursor or Claude Code - most of you will get GitHub Copilot, and thats fine too but you do need to start using these tools daily.

Now, what AI tools am I using?

Gemini - yes google is coming in Clutch with their AI

Honestly, so good, it writes copy like a human, I can create little agents called β€œGems” that I can even feed information to, to refine how they work and what information they use when creating out puts

Claude also has something similar called β€œClaude Skills”

I’ve created these Gems to help me with content creation across Linkedin, my company website, and here for my Newsletters

I’ve just started, so only my company site has AI content, but soon, AI will help me create LinkedIn and Newsletter content

And if it sucks I will change it!

THATS A WRAP

I know I’ve said im back like twice already haha - once was after some much deserved rest and another after like 3 weeks of not writing.

Its not easy doing this stuff you know :)) but honestly, i missed this

I missed sitting by my macbook pro m1 (13inch) - lying on the couch, and having my fingers go at it for 30-40 minutes

ANY HOW!
